Do you Remember Minutello’s Meadow Grill?
One of Pittsburgh’s most memorable dining experiences was located in the heart of Pittsburgh’s historic Italian district at the corners of Meadow & Larimer Avenue in East Liberty, known as the Minutello’s “Meadow Grill”.
In the 1950’s the Minutello family Al and Louis Sr., brother-in law Sid Aurilio, purchased the Meadow Grill from their good friends, Josephine & Alex Napolitano, and continued this wonderful tradition known as Minutello’s Meadow Grill.
Along with the restaurant came many “made-to-order” recipes, including our famous “award winning” brick-oven baked fresh dough pizza, generous fresh mixed antipasto salad, outstanding bountiful imported pastas, homemade lasagna, veal, cannelloni, and many other local favorite dishes.
Most notably were the many loyal employees that stayed on and grew over our 40 years in business. Many who originally watched her in the window at the Meadow Grill knew our longest employee “Rosenelle the Pizza Maker”. Rosenelle retired at the age of 80, still making our original recipes pizza.
In the early 60’s the Minutello’s opened their second restaurant in Swissvale, known as the Meadow Grill No. 2.
Late in the 60’s Minutello’s Meadow Grill Restaurant was re-located to our present location on Shady Avenue (formerly known as the Penn –Shady Ballroom; where many weddings and special occasions were celebrated). The restaurant continued as Minutello’s with the very same recipes.
Al, Louis Sr. and Sid opened their third restaurant in the late 1960’s on Cochran Road in Mt. Lebanon, and the fourth location in the 1970’s on McKnight Road in the North Hill and operated them until both properties were sold. Louis Sr. was President of the Western Pennsylvania Association from 1981 – 1982.
In 1980, Louis Jr. entered the family business and continues their rich family tradition today. Generations of loyal customers and their entire families dine with us and eagerly return often for our fine Italian cuisine and warm hospitality.
Our family spirit, congeniality and long-standing Pittsburgh roots continues as Minutello's Restaurant & Lounge commitment to your growing family and its generations to come.
